New partnership:

NOSPA MBA has just signed a new partnership with a famous French business school, Audencia Nantes management school. The partnership has been signed by Mr Jean Pierre Helfer General Manager Audencia

 

Project management seminar:

In July, at the end of two years of the international MBA program, our first batch has attended a seminar in Project Management, delivered by Dr Do Ba Khang, from Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok. Staff of Lao and international companies (SMT, AGL, Lao Tobacco, Lao Telecom, NTPC…) has been also invited to attend this last seminar to reinforce the link between NOSPA MBA and the business community.

MBA projects :

The topics of the MBA project defended in July 2005 by the first MBA batch were the following:

- The marketing strategy of mobile phone service in Lao PDR. A case study of Lao Telecom

- Human resources management practices in hotel industry in Laos

- Consequences and impacts of Lao PDR’s integration in AFTA (in 2008), focus on Lao SMEs

- Analysis of strengths and weaknesses of the export sector in Lao PDR

Summer Program:

We offered a special summer program for the new MBA batch including French and English courses and a “Business Mathematics and Statistics” seminar as an introduction and preparation to the first semester.

 

New computer room:

NOSPA MBA has bought new computers, supported by the French cooperation, to open a new computer room. The room has been equipped by 20 Multimedia Pc and new printers. Mr Gilles Lainé and Mrs Veronique Dan from the French Embassy have inaugurated the new lab. This equipment will make internet research easier to conduct.

Exchange students:

On Thursday, September 15th, five MBA first year students left Vientiane for one year specialisation in France, in famous business school and Universities, partners of NOSPA.

Saynakhone INTHAVONG, Ladsamy PHADOUANESINH, Phouvanh SIDAVONG et Khamthavisay DETCHANTHACHACK will spend their second year MBA in CERAM of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, a French business school. Those students will get specialized in international business and international project leadership. Khamsene SISAVONG will spend one year at Paris-Sorbonne university for a Master in international trade.

Finally, Vilay DUONGTHANGLA joined the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

Those students will get a dual degree at the end of their studies.

 

Students Orientation day:

On September 17th, the three MBA batches (around 90 students) gathered for the orientation day at Thanongath sportive club to integrate the new students. During the day, all the students and the staff met in the following sports: badminton, volley ball, football and... pétanque.

The objective was to reinforce the team spirit, to allow the students to know each other as well as having fun together. This sportive day ended with a dinner and a prize giving to the winners in a nice restaurant along the Mekong river.

PriceWaterhouseCoopers:

We have discussed the opportunity of a partnership between PricewaterhouseCoopers and NOSPA international MBA for delivering different conferences related to the managerial accounting field. The objective is to reinforce the teaching of Managerial accounting and corporate finance in the MBA program. The first seminar which happened on October 3rd was about the activities of PWC in Lao PDR and the region.

 

Company Visits:

The second batch of MBA visited Lao Tobacco on Saturday October 15th. The visit was conducted by Mr Laurent Notin who is in charge of the Information Technology course at NOSPA International MBA.

 

Cultural Activities and French language:

The MBA students can now learn French by participating every Wednesday afternoon to some cultural activities. Theatre is used as a medium to learn French. The students learn how to play developing therefore their communication skills which is critical in business today. In a second project they also learn how to write a script.

Later in the year some students will have the chance to compete in a singing contest organized by NOSPA

 

 

 

October:

 

NOSPA  MBA “Business Talk”:

 

“The World Bank strategy in Lao PDR” by Enrique Crousillat, country manager of the World Bank.

 

Mr. Crousillat was the guest of NOSPA International MBA “Business Talk”  on the 20th of October and talked about the World Bank strategy in Laos.

He explained the mission of the World Bank and its main activities in Lao PDR.

Then he described the main objectives for Lao PDR: sustaining growth through improved management of key drivers, improving social outcomes and reduce vulnerability through strengthened public financial management.

 

His presentation lasted for more than two hours.  Mr. Crousillat was kind enough to answer all questions from MBA students who got after the talk a better understanding of the World Bank strategic role in Lao PDR and its contribution to the country economical development.

 

 

 

Visiting Professors:

That month we welcomed Professors Urien (marketing) from Brest University. We have also welcomed Dr Porpan (Chulalongkorn University) and Dr Krongkan (International Business) from Thailand. For the first time we have invited a Vietnamese Professor, Dr Bui Thi Lan Huong from CFVG (Ho Chi Minh City), to teach the International Economics course.

Visiting Professors who come and teach at NOSPA are funded by “Synergie” Program.

 

 

 

 

November:

 

NOSPA International MBA “Business Talks”:

 

Mr Philippe Eberlé "Executive Director Ice Cream and Chilled" for Nestle Thailand was our guest on November 11th for the “Business Talk”.  His  presentation was  about a successful integrated marketing strategy implemented by Nestlé on the Thai market the last three year with an average of 30% sales growth and a huge improvement of profitability; Mr Eberle emphasizes the three key drivers of the ice cream market in Thailand : product innovation, channels management and visibility on “point of sale”.

 

Dr Bernard Moizo from IRD was our last guest in November, he talked about anthropology and corporate culture.

 

2005 Asia Advertising Festival:

 

More than 200 people attended the show November 2 th. During one hour they watched the best Tv commercials from China, Korea, India, Japan, Singapore and Thailand

The objective of this advertising show is to enhance the difference of culture between Asian countries and to observe the difference of creativity between advertising agencies in the region.

Visiting Professors :

 

Dr Marie Koulikoff from CERAM Sophia Antipolis European Business School was our visiting professor to teach a course on supply chain management. Managers from Unilever, Lao Tobacco, Beer Lao and NTPC joined the MBA students to attend to the seminar. At the end of the week, students working on different industries have made a final presentation on the coffee, beer, tobacco and textile industries in Laos focusing on the challenges and issues of their supply chain.

Dr JG Maurice from Brest University gave a seminar for the second year MBA students on Human Resources Management from the 9th to the 15th of November. The students are now working on a case study with the Human Resources department of NOVOTEL Vientiane. They will also conduct a survey in January 2006 about the remuneration practices in Laos under the supervision of Miss Charlotte Mercier, teacher and program assistant.

 

MBA first graduation Ceremony:

 

The first MBA graduation ceremony has been organized on November 18th with the presence of Mr Chaleun Yapoher, NOSPA President, and the French Ambassador in Laos, His Excellency Mr Maurice Portiche.
